When it comes to preparing your home to sell quickly, a basic understanding of home staging can go a long way. Some small but important changes to your home can make a huge difference!
We like to help our clients understand why home staging is going to transform their home. The goal is always to communicate the value of a home based on its potential to suit the lifestyle of a prospective buyer.
If you want to know a little bit about what we do, here is some very basic advice.
ABCs of home staging
If your home is:
Dirty, CLEAN it.
Messy, TIDY it.
Cluttered, ELIMINATE it.
Smelly, REFRESH it.
Dated, REPLACE it.
Broken, FIX it.
The wrong color, PAINT it.
Too personal, REMOVE it.
Vacant, FURNISH it.
Drab, make it FAB!
Applying the ABCs of home staging
Grab a clipboard or notepad with some paper and have a walk around your home.
Examine every corner of every room with a critical eye. This is how your prospective buyer will view your home.
- What do you see that stands out?
- What shouldn’t be there?
- Is there a stain on the wall above the heater?
- Maybe a mark on the wall from that one year when the Christmas tree fell down?
- Are there impressions in the hardwood because of the feet of the sofa being in the same place for a decade or more?
Move your furniture around so you can take a careful look!
After making a list of every possible imperfection in your home, take a look at the list above and clean, tidy, eliminate, paint, declutter, fix, or remove it!
Yes, sometimes you will need to throw things out!
Next, you add in some modern furniture and accent pieces, and there you have it!
You’ll find with an updated look, the home looks a lot better and the prospective buyer will see more value in your home!
See for yourself!

Looks good, right?
These homes sell for a much higher price because homes that look well kept are more desirable. Nobody wants to buy a home with potential problems such as a leaky roof, all because of a lack of maintenance!
