A homeowner called me at her Realtor’s suggestion to discuss staging the large open room in her basement before it went on the market. She knew the ‘bowling alley’ effect would be a bit disconcerting for most buyers. It was a beautiful ranch bungalow, only a couple of years old. It had a large piece of land and was in a great area.
This house had a great open floor plan on the main floor, but the basement was not showing so well, even though it was mostly developed. There was a bedroom, bathroom, lots of storage and a huge ‘rec room’ which was empty except for a treadmill. To show its true potential, we decided it needed to be staged.
The homeowner needed to use the treadmill until the house sold, so we had to work around that. We brought in a sofa, loveseat, coffee table, end tables, and a TV/stand. We added lots of cushions and accessories to make a cosy TV watching area. On the other end of this space where the treadmill was, I put a rug, chair, floor lamp and a side table for a separate area if somebody wanted to read, browse the net, etc.
This home owner did it right! She decided to stage her house BEFORE it went on the market. And sure enough-it sold immediately with multiple offers and higher than list price!
